The beating heart of the festival this year, as well, remains Piazza Mazzini. The large quadrilateral flanked by beautiful centuries-old plane trees will host the concerts of Carmen Consoli + Marina Rei (Thursday, June 1st), Gary Baldi Bros (Friday, June 2nd), and Rosa Chemical (Saturday, June 3rd).

June 4th will be dedicated to tradition and the athletic gesture embodied by the Coppa Risi’atori (Rice Eaters’ Cup). Once again – and as usual, now – the audience will be able to enjoy live coverage of the main race of the Gozzi a 10 remi (10 oared galleys) thanks to aerial drone footage projected on the big screen set up in Piazza Mazzini. The images will also be visible in real time on granducato TV. At the end of the day, the celebratory dinner with all the competing neighborhoods will also feature a service brigade from the Parco del Mulino (Mill Park). As the culmination, there will be a projection of images from the different races, award ceremonies, and entertainment by Stefano Santomauro.

The other initiatives of STRABORGO 2023 will be spread throughout the streets, squares, and other outdoor spaces that characterize the neighborhood. The expansion of the “street” exhibition by Stefano Pilato “Bar Orione Borgo dei Cappuccini: the people of a district” will unfold between Via Borgo dei Cappuccini and the nearby streets. In the commercial area of Porta a mare, there will be performances curated by the Consorzio Porta a Mare and every evening, street art will make its way everywhere with fixed and itinerant performances. On June 2nd, in Piazza Mazzini, there will be a captivating aerial fabric show by the acrobats Flying Sugar from the Solidago Fitness gym. Lastly, there will be rides for children and traditional market stalls with artisanal proposals in Piazza Mazzini and other types of stalls in Via Cavalletti.

STRABORGO was born with the intention of enhancing Borgo dei Cappuccini and the Coppa Risi’atori (Rice Eaters’ Cup). The revival of the race, confirmed by the increasing audience in front of the big screen in Piazza Mazzini, represents the first result achieved. The second is to have created a permanent event that aims to communicate the identity and culture of Livorno through one of its most characteristic neighborhoods, which is also open to young people through the most contemporary music.

STRABORGO is organized by the Fondazione L.E.M. – Livorno Euro Mediterranea (L.E.M. Foundation – Livorno Euro Mediterranean). At the core of its mission is the organization and conception of major city events on behalf of the administration, as well as simultaneous territorial promotion for tourism purposes.
