This itinerary offers a historical and urban interpretation of the birth of Livorno as a new city, designed as a free port and a place of welcome. Through seven symbolic stops, the route tells the story of the Livornine laws, the presence of foreign communities, religious coexistence and the development of a city built on encounters between different cultures.
The walk crosses neighbourhoods, port areas and places of everyday life, highlighting how the diversity of peoples and traditions has influenced not only the urban layout but also the character, language and cuisine of the city. The seventh stop coincides with the Mercato delle Vettovaglie, where the final tasting becomes an integral part of the narrative, a tangible synthesis of centuries of cultural cross-pollination.
