The Calafuria Nature Reserve is described as an area of highlands and deep canyons, rich in water and characterized by ancient Mediterranean scrubland.
The excursion offers an easy route to discover this area with a marine atmosphere, with views over the coast south of Livorno and a passage through the Calignaia canyon.

Departure from Il Castellaccio (LI). The route follows easy cart tracks, staying at altitude among Mediterranean scrubland and coastal views. After about an hour and a half of walking, you reach the coastal area, with a descent along a fairly steep trail towards the Romito road and Calignaia. The lunch break is planned at the cove. After lunch, the walk resumes uphill towards Il Castellaccio, climbing back up the Calignaia canyon. The trail crosses numerous streams and returns to higher ground, until it rejoins the initial cart track and the starting point.
