Excellent wines, from Supertuscans to oenological excellences

A sip of our territory

If you are wine lovers, the Livorno coast is a destination that will surprise you with its variety and excellence. Guardian of an established wine tradition, kissed by the Mediterranean, the Livorno area, with Bolgheri as its flagship, continues to enchant winemakers and enthusiasts from every corner of the planet with the exquisite quality of its wines. A perfect combination of microclimate, natural environment, and peasant tradition that has elevated this area to a jewel of Italian winemaking. So much so that its finest wines are adorned with the informal appellation of “Supertuscans”.

Influenced by its proximity to the sea and characterized by mild winters and sunny summers, the microclimate of the Livorno coast offers all the optimal conditions for modern viticulture. The low annual rainfall, geological conformation of the land, and sea breezes make this land perfect for vine cultivation.

So, wine lovers, get ready, here are the prestigious denominations of the Livorno area:

  • Bolgheri DOC: a denomination that includes a wide range of wines of undisputed fame, from whites to reds, including rosés. The main cultivated grape varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Sangiovese, Syrah, and Vermentino.
  • Terratico di Bibbona DOC: a typical denomination that extends to the hilly area southeast of Livorno, in a ventilated, bright, and favorable territory for the vegetative and productive functions of grape varieties such as Trebbiano, Vermentino, Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah.
  • Toscano or Toscana IGT: represents one of the most important and extensive regulations of the Tuscany region. The IGT “Toscano” or “Toscana” wines can be obtained from numerous grape varieties including Aleatico, Brunello, Colorino, Canaiolo Nero, Foglia Tonda, Morellino, Sangiovese, Vermentino, Malvasia, Trebbiano Toscano, and many others.
  • Costa Toscana IGT: the geographical area dedicated to the production of Costa Toscana IGT wine extends for 379 km along the hilly and flat territory of the coastal area and arises from the need to diversify the wine production compared to the IGT “Toscana”.
  • Aleatico IGP Toscana: this designation is reserved for an excellent passito wine produced with pure Aleatico grapes, semi-aromatic with black berries, from the islands of Elba and Capraia.
