The Story of Villa Trossi-Uberti and the Art Foundation

In the picturesque neighborhood of Ardenza, just south of Livorno, stands Villa Trossi Uberti, a majestic residence immersed in a romantic 19th-century park of palm trees, holm oaks, and oleanders, characterized by winding paths and statues of historical figures.

When visiting, after passing through the wide portico supported by three Doric columns, you will be welcomed into spacious interior salons adorned with portraits, paintings, and bronze sculptures. The architectural and decorative details, such as the elegant marble fireplaces and Palladian-style floors, are also of great value.

Built in 1889 by the will of Luisa Carlotta Coventry, Marchioness Santisalia, the villa shines with the opulence and refinement typical of that era.

Located in an area that quickly became a favored destination for many affluent Italian and foreign families, the villa was purchased in 1918 by Carlo Trossi and his wife Corinna, who belonged to noble and wealthy Piedmontese families.

Both passionate about art, over the years the couple enriched the villa with works by important artists, some acquired and others commissioned, transforming their home into a true domestic museum.

Upon her husband’s death in 1959, Corinna Trossi donated the villa and its artworks to the city of Livorno, establishing the Trossi-Uberti Art Foundation and the Free Academy of Fine Arts connected to it, an institution dedicated to supporting and nurturing the artistic aspirations of young talents.
