Excursion to the Eremo della Sambuca

Excursion in the Livorno Hills towards the Sambuca Hermitage. The Livorno Hills are presented as a green area just a few kilometres from the coast and behind the city of Livorno.
The route passes through woods of Mediterranean scrub and oaks, with a generally gentle course and a few short climbs. The walk reaches the Sambuca Hermitage, where a long lunch break is planned, before returning in a loop to the starting point.
The itinerary starts from the Cisternino di Pian di Rota, follows a country road and then enters the woods of the Livorno hills. The route passes by the Crocione, described as a panoramic viewpoint over Livorno, and continues towards the Sambuca Hermitage.
