Ca' Lo Spelli

A historic journey into the world of bees

Ca’ Lo Spelli Farmstay invites you for an exhilarating journey into the deep, centuries-old connection between humans and bees. This unique experience, led by Francesco Varallo, an expert in Archaeology and the brain behind “The Court of Queens,” will envelop you in nature and the roots of a noble and ancestral relationship. Your exploration begins as you step into an ancient forest, inhabited by holm oaks, elms, and turkey oaks, leading to a clearing where the “Theatre in the Olive Quarry” is located. This natural amphitheater, created from the transformation of an old quarry, is home to over a hundred olive trees and numerous attractive plants creating a natural refuge for bees and pollinating insects.
Here, you will admire the Author’s Apiary, a living installation born from the creativity of Mauro Rutto, engineer and beekeeper, who revolutionized the concept of apiaries. He transformed the chaos of simple colored hives into an open-air work of art that harmonizes beautifully with the landscape. Throughout this fascinating experience, you will not only discover the beauty of a fascinating, synergistic and complex world like that of bees, but you will also have the opportunity to closely observe these indispensable members of our ecosystem and know the natural meaning of their hierarchy and dedication.
To finalize, at the end of your journey, after learning, admiring, understanding and observing so much, you will taste the fruits of the hard efforts of our bee friends during a honey tasting that will sweeten your soul and your palate.

Author’s Apiary
Since its debut, on the shores of Lake Orta in 2019 and the subsequent Tour of Italy, Author’s Apiary has reached Tuscany at the Agriturismo Ca’ Lo Spelli in 2021. Each phase, transforming beehives into real artistic masterpieces, has been a tribute to the beauty and vital importance of bees. At the end of the beekeeping season, the various creations were then displayed in different art galleries, replacing the originals with replicas to ensure the continuity of the project.
